This explainer is part of our [banking guide](/banking). It covers **account aggregators and bank deposits in your CAS**: the two changes RBI announced on 7 October 2026, and what they mean for how you track your money.

## What RBI announced

Alongside its 7 October 2026 policy decision, RBI's Statement on Developmental and Regulatory Policies included two measures for account aggregators (AAs):

1. **Interoperability among AAs.** Account aggregators, which are licensed as NBFC-AAs, will be able to work with one another.
2. **Bank deposits in the CAS.** SEBI-regulated depositories will be enabled to include bank deposit data, fetched through AAs, in the Consolidated Account Statement (CAS).

Both are targeted for completion by 31 December 2026.

## Account aggregator CAS bank deposits: what changes for you

If you hold shares or mutual funds, you probably already get a monthly CAS from NSDL or CDSL that lists your investments in one document. Bank FDs and savings balances have been missing from it. Once the change is in place, the CAS should be able to show your bank deposits too, giving you one statement for most of your financial assets.

How you will opt in, and which banks will be covered first, had not been published by 18 October 2026. We will update this page when it is.

## Why it matters

### Tracking net worth

A single statement makes it far easier to see your total savings. That helps with planning goals such as your [FIRE number](/articles/fire/how-to-calculate-your-fire-number-india), and with checking that your deposits are spread sensibly. Shares you are allotted in an IPO, such as the [Jio Platforms IPO](/articles/ipo/jio-ipo), already show up in your demat CAS once credited.

### Staying within deposit insurance

DICGC insures up to INR 5 lakh per depositor per bank. Seeing all your deposits together makes it easier to spot when too much sits in one bank. Our guide to [best FD rates for senior citizens](/articles/banking/best-fd-rates-senior-citizens) explains the rule.

### Avoiding unclaimed deposits

Mint reported that RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra linked the change to helping people avoid unclaimed deposits: accounts and FDs that are forgotten and eventually inactive. A regular statement listing every deposit makes it less likely that money is left behind.

## The account aggregator system today

Mint reports that India has 17 active account aggregators, and that Sahamati was recognised as the self-regulatory organisation for the sector in June 2026. Lenders and wealth platforms use AAs to fetch bank statements with your consent, for example when you apply for a loan.

## Tips for using account aggregators safely

- **Use RBI-registered AAs only.**
- **Read every consent request.** It lists what data is shared, with whom, for what purpose and for how long.
- **Review and revoke old consents** in your AA app.
- **Never share OTPs** with anyone who calls you about an AA consent.
