Our [credit cards guide](/credit-cards) explains how to judge any card. This review covers the **HDFC Millennia Credit Card** using HDFC's terms published on 20 July 2026, and shows where the 5% rate stops paying.

**Last updated: 5 November 2026.** Educational, not advice. HDFC can change merchant lists and caps, so check the card page before applying.

## HDFC Millennia at a glance

| Feature | HDFC Millennia |
|---|---|
| Joining and renewal fee | INR 1,000 + taxes |
| Fee waiver | INR 1 lakh spend in the year before renewal |
| Welcome benefit | 1,000 CashPoints if the joining fee is paid |
| 5% brands | Amazon, BookMyShow, Cult.fit, Flipkart, Myntra, Sony LIV, Swiggy, Tata CLiQ, Uber, Zomato |
| 5% cap | 1,000 CashPoints a calendar month |
| Other spends | 1%, capped at 1,000 CashPoints a calendar month |
| No CashPoints on | Fuel, rent, wallet loads, EMI, government payments, cash advances |
| Quarterly milestone | INR 1,000 voucher or 1 domestic lounge visit on INR 1 lakh spend |
| Fuel surcharge waiver | 1% on INR 400-INR 5,000, up to INR 250 a cycle |
| Redemption | INR 1 per CashPoint against the statement, INR 50 fee each time |

## Where the caps bite

Both caps reset every calendar month, not every billing cycle:

- **5% bucket:** 1,000 CashPoints means the 5% rate covers your first INR 20,000 of spend on the ten brands. Beyond that, those spends earn nothing more that month.
- **1% bucket:** 1,000 CashPoints covers INR 1 lakh of other eligible spend.

The ten brands must match HDFC's merchant IDs. Buying through SmartBuy or PayZapp, even from the same brands, earns only 1% from the card (SmartBuy offers come on top). Gift cards and vouchers fall in the 1% bucket, and wallet loads earn nothing.

## The INR 50 redemption fee

CashPoints are worth INR 1 only when you redeem them against your statement. HDFC charges INR 50 for each redemption, needs at least 500 CashPoints, and caps statement redemptions at 3,000 CashPoints a month. Redeem in large batches: INR 50 on 3,000 points costs under 2%, but on 500 points it costs 10%. Avoid SmartBuy flights and hotels, where a CashPoint is worth only INR 0.30.

## The maths

Say you spend INR 15,000 a month on the ten brands and INR 20,000 on other eligible spends, INR 4.2 lakh a year:

- 5% bucket: INR 15,000 x 5% = 750 CashPoints a month
- 1% bucket: INR 20,000 x 1% = 200 CashPoints a month
- Year: 950 x 12 = 11,400 CashPoints, or **INR 11,200** after four INR 50 redemptions
- Milestones: INR 1.05 lakh a quarter clears the INR 1 lakh target, worth **INR 4,000** in vouchers a year
- Fee: waived, because you passed INR 1 lakh

That is about INR 15,200 on INR 4.2 lakh, or roughly 3.6%. If most of your spend is not on the ten brands, the return falls towards 1%.

## Who should get it

- **People whose online spend is mostly on the ten brands**, at up to INR 20,000 a month.
- **People who will hit INR 1 lakh a quarter** and use the vouchers.

## Who should skip it

- **People who shop on Amazon only.** [Amazon Pay ICICI](/articles/credit-cards/amazon-pay-icici-credit-card-review) has no fee and no monthly cap.
- **People with broad online spend across many sites.** [SBI Cashback](/articles/credit-cards/sbi-cashback-card-review) pays 5% online without a merchant list.
- **First-time cardholders who want no fee.** See [best first credit cards](/articles/credit-cards/best-credit-cards-for-beginners).

HDFC also charges 1% on rent paid through apps, on fuel above INR 15,000 a transaction and on utilities above INR 50,000 a transaction (each capped at INR 3,000). Compare cashback cards in [best cashback credit cards](/articles/credit-cards/best-cashback-credit-cards-india).
