Our [credit cards guide](/credit-cards) explains how to judge any card. HDFC Bank has split its Swiggy credit card into two variants, **Swiggy BLCK** and **Swiggy Ornge**. This review compares them and works out which one pays more for how you order.

**Last updated: 31 October 2026.** Educational, not advice. HDFC's site also still shows the original Swiggy HDFC Bank card; this review covers the two newer variants. Check HDFC's Most Important Terms and Conditions for the current caps before applying.

## Swiggy BLCK vs Swiggy Ornge at a glance

| Feature | Swiggy BLCK | Swiggy Ornge |
|---|---|---|
| Joining / renewal fee | INR 1,000 + GST | INR 500 + GST |
| First-year fee waiver | Spend INR 75,000 in the first 90 days | Not listed |
| Renewal fee waiver | INR 2 lakh spend in a year | INR 1.5 lakh spend in a year |
| Welcome benefit | 3 months of Swiggy BLCK membership | 12 months of Swiggy One on activation |
| Swiggy app (food, Instamart, Dineout) | 10% (INR 249 minimum transaction) | 5% |
| Select online merchants | 5% | 5% |
| Other eligible spends | 1% | 1% |
| Golf | 4 green-fee rounds and 12 lessons a year (Mastercard) | Same |
| Eligibility (salaried) | Age 21-60 | Age 21-60, net income above INR 20,000 a month |

HDFC lists the select online merchants and merchant category codes for the 5% rate separately. Cashback is auto-redeemed against your statement, so there is nothing to claim.

## Which one pays more?

The difference is 5 percentage points on Swiggy spend, against a INR 500 difference in fee (before GST).

INR 500 / 5% = **INR 10,000 a year**, or about **INR 833 a month** of Swiggy spend. Above that, BLCK earns more. Below it, Ornge wins.

### Two example users

| | Light Swiggy user | Heavy Swiggy user |
|---|---|---|
| Swiggy a month | INR 2,000 | INR 6,000 |
| Select online merchants a month | INR 2,000 | INR 4,000 |
| Other spends a month | INR 8,000 | INR 15,000 |
| **Swiggy BLCK cashback a year** | INR 4,560 | INR 11,400 |
| **Swiggy Ornge cashback a year** | INR 3,360 | INR 7,800 |
| BLCK advantage before fees | INR 1,200 | INR 3,600 |

Both users are above the break-even, so BLCK comes out ahead once the INR 500 fee difference is taken off. Third-party listings say HDFC caps the 10% Swiggy cashback at INR 1,500 a billing cycle; the heavy user's INR 600 a month on Swiggy is well inside that. Confirm the caps in the MITC.

## Who should get which

- **Swiggy BLCK:** you order food or Instamart several times a week, or can put INR 75,000 on the card in the first 90 days to get the joining fee waived.
- **Swiggy Ornge:** you order a few times a month, or you would pay for Swiggy One anyway. Twelve months of Swiggy One is the bigger welcome benefit.

## Who should skip both

- **Zomato and Blinkit users.** The [Eternal SBI Card](/articles/credit-cards/eternal-sbi-card-review) does the same job for Eternal's apps.
- **People who rarely order online.** A flat card such as [SBI Card CASHBACK](/credit-cards/sbi-card/cashback-card) or [Axis Ace](/credit-cards/axis-bank/ace) is simpler.
- **Anyone who carries a balance.** No cashback survives card interest; see [the minimum-due trap](/articles/credit-cards/credit-card-fees-and-minimum-due-trap).
