## The limits at a glance

At the INR 1,119 cap, which is what a cut-off bid blocks (lot of 12 shares):

| Bid | Category | Lots | Shares | Amount blocked |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bid 1 | RIL shareholder quota (max) | 14 | 168 | INR 1,87,992 |
| Bid 2, option A | Retail (max) | 14 | 168 | INR 1,87,992 |
| **Total, option A** | | **28** | **336** | **INR 3,75,984** |
| Bid 2, option B | Small NII (minimum) | 15 | 180 | INR 2,01,420 |
| **Total, option B** | | **29** | **348** | **INR 3,89,412** |

Option B has trade-offs: NII bids can't be at the cut-off, can't be withdrawn or lowered, and UPI works only up to INR 5 lakh. Details: [HNI quota](/articles/ipo/jio-ipo-hni-nii-quota).

## Step by step: bidding in both quotas

1. **Confirm you qualify.** Check that your demat holding statement shows RIL shares **as on 14 October 2026**, in your name as first holder. Under T+1 settlement a purchase shows in your demat the next working day, so if you bought around 13-14 October, ask your broker whether the shares were credited by the 14th.
2. **Keep enough money in the bank.** Two bids mean two blocks. For two maximum cut-off bids you need INR 3,75,984 available in the linked account.
3. **Place bid 1 in the shareholder category.** In your broker app's IPO section, pick Jio Platforms and choose the **"Shareholder"** (RIL shareholder) category. Enter up to 14 lots, tick **cut-off**, enter your UPI ID and submit. Approve the UPI mandate in your UPI app.
4. **Place bid 2 in the retail category.** Go back and apply again, choosing **"Individual"** / retail. Enter up to 14 lots at cut-off and submit. Approve the **second** UPI mandate. Each bid has its own mandate.
5. **Check both bids on the exchange.** Each bid gets its own application number. You can verify bids on NSE or BSE using your PAN.
6. **Finish before the deadline.** Mandates must be accepted by **7:00 pm IST on 23 October 2026**. The RHP suggests bidding a day early.

If your broker app doesn't show a shareholder category, ask the broker, or bid through your bank's ASBA net banking.

## Worked examples

These use the INR 1,119 cap and are **illustrations** of the RHP rules, not predictions.

**Example 1: Priya holds 10 RIL shares on 14 October.** She bids 14 lots in the shareholder quota and 14 lots in retail, blocking INR 3,75,984.
- If the shareholder quota ends at **0.8x**, she gets all 168 shares she bid for there.
- If it ends at **3x**, she gets about a third of her bid, roughly 4-5 lots after rounding (proportionate).
- In retail, if applicants exceed the roughly 70.86 lakh lots available, she has a lottery chance at **one lot**, whether she bid 1 lot or 14.

**Example 2: Ravi bought RIL shares on 16 October.** He is **not eligible**: the record date was 14 October. He can bid only in retail or NII.

**Example 3: Meena and her husband hold RIL jointly, with Meena as first holder.** Meena can bid in the shareholder quota. Her husband can't use that holding, but he can bid in retail from his own PAN and demat. That is two retail-type chances for the household plus Meena's shareholder bid.

**Example 4: Arjun is a Jio employee and an RIL shareholder.** The RHP lets him bid in the employee portion (up to INR 5 lakh net of the INR 54 discount), the shareholder quota and the net issue, without these counting as multiple bids, subject to limits.

## Mistakes that get bids rejected

- **Two bids in the same category from one PAN** (for example two retail bids). The RHP lets the company reject multiple bids.
- **A shareholder-quota bid above INR 2 lakh.**
- **Bidding as a shareholder when you weren't one on 14 October,** or when you are only a joint (second) holder.
- **A UPI mandate not approved by 7:00 pm on 23 October.**
- **A bid below the final issue price** if you didn't tick cut-off.

## How the two bids are allotted

The two bids are processed separately, in different categories:

- **Shareholder quota:** proportionate. Track demand on our [subscription status page](/articles/ipo/jio-ipo-subscription-status), where it showed **0.51x** at 10:57 IST on day 1 (NSE).
- **Retail:** at least one lot per allottee, by lottery if needed. It showed **0.27x** at the same time.

Check both results from about 26 October on the [Jio IPO allotment status](/articles/ipo/jio-ipo-allotment-status) page.
