For the policy backdrop, see [US midterm results and Indian IT stocks](/articles/ipo/us-midterm-results-indian-it-stocks). For every live issue, see the [IPO guides hub](/ipo).

Asia's tech-heavy markets also fell overnight into Friday's India session.

In US market slang, a **correction** usually means an index has fallen more than 10% from a recent high. It is a label for the size of the drop, not a prediction of what comes next.

## What "reverse AI" means here

The phrase is a **flow story**, not a new fundamental law:

1. **US AI names sold off** on midterm-linked fears about data-centre rules and the sustainability of AI infrastructure spend.
2. **India has little listed AI-hardware exposure** compared with the Nasdaq. Services IT is asset-light.
3. **Foreign buying was already heavy.** BusinessToday's provisional FPI figure for 5 Nov is **INR 13,801.83 crore**. Geojit strategist V.K. Vijayakumar, quoted by BusinessToday, also pointed to about **INR 35,781 crore** of FII buying over the prior five sessions and argued the AI slowdown trade could help India allocations.

That does **not** mean Indian IT is insulated. The US still buys **54.1%** of India's software services exports ([RBI survey for FY26](/articles/ipo/us-midterm-results-indian-it-stocks)). A weaker US tech budget can still hit deal pipelines later. The 6 Nov move is about **relative** buying on the day.

<div data-callout="jargon" data-title="FPI vs FII">

**FPI** (foreign portfolio investor) is the current regulatory label. Older market copy still says **FII**. Outlets sometimes publish slightly different provisional single-day totals; BusinessToday's INR 13,801.83 crore and Moneycontrol's alternate FII print for 5 Nov are an example. Prefer the final NSE/SEBI tally when it lands.

</div>

## How this sits next to 4 November

On **4 Nov**, after the midterm calls, [Nifty IT fell 1.50% while the Nifty 50 rose 0.63%](/articles/ipo/us-midterm-results-indian-it-stocks) -- IT sold off with US AI. Two sessions later, the **same midterm/AI-regulation story** is being read as a reason to **own** Indian IT versus US AI hardware. Markets flip narratives quickly; one Friday does not rewrite multi-year IT budgets.

## What it means for you

- **If you hold IT stocks or IT funds:** a strong session after a weak one is common around global event weeks. Company results, deal wins and pricing still matter more over a year than one rotation headline.
