This page explains the **Jio IPO anchor investors**: how the anchor book works, what the RHP allows and what has only been reported. We will add the official anchor list once it is filed. It is part of the [Jio IPO DRHP and RHP breakdown](/articles/ipo/jio-ipo) and our [IPO guides](/ipo).

**Last updated: 18 October 2026, IST.** Anchor bidding is scheduled for Monday 19 October 2026.

> **Educational content, not investment advice.** This page explains the issue using the company's own offer documents and exchange filings. tldr.money is not a SEBI-registered investment adviser or research analyst, and nothing here is a recommendation to apply for, buy, sell or hold any security. IPO investments can lose money, including on listing day. Read the [red herring prospectus](https://www.sebi.gov.in/sebi_data/attachdocs/oct-2026/1792045029108.pdf) before you bid, and speak to a SEBI-registered adviser if you need personal advice.

## What anchor investors are

Anchor investors are large institutions, such as mutual funds, insurers, pension funds and foreign funds, that commit to buy shares **one working day before** an IPO opens to the public. They are qualified institutional buyers (QIBs) bidding in a special slice of the QIB portion.

Companies and lead managers use anchors to show demand before retail and HNI investors bid. A strong anchor book is a real, verifiable signal. Unlike [GMP](/articles/ipo/jio-ipo-gmp), it comes with names, prices and lock-ins in an official filing.

## Anchor rules in the Jio IPO RHP

| Rule | What the RHP says |
|---|---|
| Size | Up to 60% of the QIB portion, allocated at the company's discretion with the lead managers |
| Reserved within the anchor book | 40% of the anchor portion: 33.33% for domestic mutual funds and 6.67% for life insurers and pension funds |
| Minimum anchor bid | INR 10 crore (INR 100 million) |
| Bidding date | Monday 19 October 2026 |
| Lock-in | 50% of shares for 30 days and 50% for 90 days from allotment |
| Price | Anchors bid at a price within the band. If the final issue price is higher, they pay the difference. |
| Unallocated shares | Go back to the QIB portion for the main book |
| Can anchors bid via UPI? | No |

A further 5% of the remaining (net) QIB portion is reserved for mutual funds in the main book.

### How big could the anchor book be?

At the INR 1,119 cap, the QIB portion is about 12.15 crore shares, or about INR 13,594 crore (our calculation from the RHP's issue structure). Up to 60% of that, roughly **7.29 crore shares or about INR 8,156 crore**, could go to anchors. The actual figure depends on what the company allocates and will be in the exchange filing.

### When does the anchor lock-in end?

If allotment happens on 26 October 2026, as the RHP's timetable indicates, the 30-day lock-in on half the anchor shares would end around **25 November 2026** and the 90-day lock-in on the rest around **24 January 2027** (our calculation). Lock-in expiries can bring selling pressure, though anchors are not required to sell.

## What has been reported (not official)

- **Mint, 18 October 2026**, citing media reports: LIC, leading mutual funds and asset managers, and global investors are said to be interested in the anchor book, with indicative commitments of about **INR 2.5 lakh crore**.
- **Reuters, 9 October 2026**: Jio Platforms was set to target a valuation of nearly $106 billion (about INR 10.3 lakh crore).

These are press reports of interest, not allocations. Treat them as unconfirmed until the anchor allocation is filed.

## How to read the anchor book

- **Who is in it matters more than the total.** Long-term domestic mutual funds, insurers and sovereign funds are a stronger signal than a single large allocation.
- **The anchor price is set within the price band.** It does not tell you the stock will trade higher.
- **Anchors can sell after their lock-ins.** Note the dates above.
- **Anchor demand is not public demand.** Check the live subscription numbers on NSE and BSE from 21 October.
