This guide covers the **Jio IPO RIL shareholder quota**: who qualifies, how much you can bid and how allotment works. It is part of the [Jio IPO DRHP and RHP breakdown](/articles/ipo/jio-ipo) and our [IPO guides](/ipo).

> **Educational content, not investment advice.** This page explains the issue using the company's own offer documents and exchange filings. tldr.money is not a SEBI-registered investment adviser or research analyst, and nothing here is a recommendation to apply for, buy, sell or hold any security. IPO investments can lose money, including on listing day. Read the [red herring prospectus](https://www.sebi.gov.in/sebi_data/attachdocs/oct-2026/1792045029108.pdf) before you bid, and speak to a SEBI-registered adviser if you need personal advice.

## Is there a Reliance shareholder quota in the Jio IPO?

Yes. The RHP reserves shares worth **up to INR 2,500 crore** for "Eligible RIL Shareholders". Reliance confirmed this in its disclosure to BSE and NSE on 14 October 2026. There is a separate reservation of up to INR 500 crore for eligible employees.

## Who qualifies

According to Reliance's 14 October filing and the RHP, you qualify if **all** of these are true:

1. You are an **individual or a Hindu undivided family (HUF)**. An HUF can hold the shares directly or in the name of its karta.
2. You are a **public equity shareholder of Reliance Industries**. Promoter group holdings do not count.
3. You held RIL shares **as on 14 October 2026**, the date the RHP was filed.
4. You are not otherwise barred from investing in the issue under applicable law.

For joint applications, the first applicant must be the eligible RIL shareholder.

### What this means in practice

- **Buying RIL shares now does not qualify you.** The cut-off date has passed.
- **Companies, trusts and other entities that hold RIL shares do not qualify** for this portion. They can still bid in the NII or QIB portions if eligible.
- **If you bought RIL shares on or just before 14 October**, check whether they were credited to your demat account by that date. With T+1 settlement, a purchase made on 14 October would normally reach your account the next working day. The RHP does not spell out how this case is treated, so confirm with your broker or the registrar, KFin Technologies, before relying on it.
- **Jio Financial Services shares do not count.** Jio Financial is a separate listed company; see [Jio Financial vs Jio Platforms](/articles/ipo/jio-financial-vs-jio-platforms).

## How much you can bid

| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Maximum bid | Up to INR 2 lakh |
| Lot size | 12 shares |
| Practical maximum at the cut-off | 14 lots, 168 shares, INR 1,87,992 blocked (our calculation at INR 1,119) |
| Cut-off price | Allowed, since bids are up to INR 2 lakh |
| Payment | ASBA, including UPI |
| Allotment | Proportionate within the RIL shareholder portion, subject to the minimum bid lot |

### Can you bid in the shareholder quota and the retail quota?

Yes. The RHP says bids by eligible RIL shareholders in the shareholder portion and in the net issue (retail or NII), and in the employee portion if they are eligible, are **not treated as multiple bids**, subject to limits.

So an eligible RIL shareholder can, for example, place:

| Bid | Up to | Blocked at the cut-off |
|---|---|---|
| RIL shareholder portion | INR 2 lakh | INR 1,87,992 (14 lots) |
| Retail portion | INR 2 lakh | INR 1,87,992 (14 lots) |
| Total blocked | | INR 3,75,984 |

Alternatively, the second bid can be in the NII portion if it is above INR 2 lakh. Only one bid is allowed in the net issue.

## How allotment works in the shareholder portion

The shareholder portion is allotted **proportionately**, subject to the minimum bid lot of 12 shares. If demand is within the portion, everyone gets what they bid for. If it is heavily oversubscribed, each applicant's proportionate share falls below one lot, and successful applicants are chosen by a draw of lots for one lot each, as SEBI's proportionate allotment rules provide.

How many people could get one lot? At the cap, INR 2,500 crore buys about 2.23 crore shares, or about 18.6 lakh lots of 12 (our calculation). Whether this portion is oversubscribed depends on how many eligible shareholders apply. Subscription figures will be on the NSE and BSE bid pages from 21 October.

Unsubscribed shares in this portion move first to the employee portion and then to the retail and NII portions in a 70:30 ratio.

## How to bid as an RIL shareholder

1. Open your broker app or your bank's ASBA facility during the bidding window, 21 to 23 October 2026.
2. Choose Jio Platforms and select the **shareholder** (RIL shareholder reservation) category.
3. Use the same PAN that holds your RIL shares.
4. Bid at the cut-off, enter your UPI ID and approve the mandate in your UPI app before 7:00 pm IST on 23 October.
