## What claim settlement ratio means

Claim settlement ratio (CSR) is the share of claims an insurer paid out of those it received in a period. A high, stable CSR is a reasonable shortlist filter because it signals a track record of paying. But it is not a promise: CSR mixes all policy types, and an individual claim still turns on the policy wording and how honestly the policy was bought.

Use CSR to shortlist, then weigh solvency, complaint trends, and the insurer's reputation for handling disputed claims.

## The nominee claim process

A term claim is filed by the nominee, so they need to know the policy exists and where the documents are.

1. **Intimate the insurer.** The nominee informs the insurer of the death and starts the claim, online or at a branch.
2. **Submit documents.** Provide the claim form, original policy document, death certificate, nominee ID and bank details, and any medical or accident records the insurer requests.
3. **Insurer review.** The insurer verifies the claim. Early claims and large sums may face closer scrutiny.
4. **Settlement.** On approval, the payout goes to the nominee, as a lump sum or the chosen payout structure.

## Why term claims get rejected

- **Non-disclosure.** Hiding smoking, alcohol use, income, occupation, or medical history is the biggest cause of rejection. Disclose everything at purchase.
- **Wrong or missing nominee details.** An outdated nominee or missing documents stalls the claim.
- **Lapsed policy.** A policy that lapsed for non-payment may not pay. Keep premiums current.

## The nominee checklist

- Tell your nominee the policy exists and where to find it.
- Keep the policy document and insurer contact details accessible.
- Keep the nominee name and their contact and bank details up to date.
- Never let the policy lapse; set up auto-pay if needed.
- Above all, buy with full disclosure so there is nothing to contest later.
