The four things standing between CTC and your bank account

Cost to company is what your employer spends on you for a year. Take-home is what survives after money is diverted into retirement accounts, held back as a future benefit, or paid to the government on your behalf. At mid-to-senior salaries the gap runs to 25-35%, and almost none of it is negotiable once you have signed.

What is deductedRoughly how muchDo you get it back?
Employer EPF12% of basicYes, at retirement, with 8.25% interest
Employee EPF12% of basicYes, and it counts toward 80C
Gratuity provision4.81% of basicOnly after 5 years of service

From your first payslip to financial independence

These calculators are designed to be used in sequence rather than in isolation. Each one hands a number to the next.

  1. 1. Work out what you actually earn. The in-hand salary calculator turns CTC into monthly take-home and tells you which tax regime leaves you better off.
  2. 2. Check the regime decision properly. The income tax calculator compares old and new regime in detail, including surcharge and capital gains.
  3. 3. Project the forced savings you already have. The EPF calculator shows what your provident fund grows into, and whether VPF is worth adding.
  4. 4. Find the finish line. The retirement and FIRE planner takes your EPF projection as a starting corpus and computes what else you need. The FIRE guide covers why Indian inflation and EPF lock-ins change the standard advice.
  5. 5. If you move abroad, start over with residency. The NRI calculator decides your status first, because that changes which of your income India can tax at all.

FAQ

Which calculator should I use to work out my take-home salary?

Start with the In-Hand Salary Calculator. It converts annual CTC into monthly take-home, handling employer PF, the gratuity provision, HRA exemption, professional tax for your state, and income tax under both regimes. If you only want the tax figure on an income you already know, use the Income Tax Calculator instead.

How much of my CTC do I actually take home in India?

Usually 70-80% at lower salaries and 60-70% at higher ones, since income tax grows as a share of pay as you move up the slabs. The gap comes from four things: employer PF, the gratuity provision, your own PF contribution, and income tax plus professional tax.

Do these calculators use FY 2025-26 tax rules?

Yes. Every tax figure uses FY 2025-26 (AY 2026-27) rules, including the ₹75,000 standard deduction and the Section 87A rebate up to ₹12 lakh of taxable income in the new regime, the revised new-regime slabs, surcharge with marginal relief, and 4% cess.

Are these calculators free, and is my data safe?

They are free with no sign-up. Every calculation runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you type — salary, expenses, day counts — is transmitted to a server or stored anywhere.

Can NRIs use the in-hand salary calculator?

Only for salary that is taxable in India, and even then the NRI Salary & Tax Calculator is the better fit. Non-residents cannot claim the Section 87A rebate or the higher senior-citizen exemption, so a resident-rules calculator will understate the tax. Determine your residential status first.

How do EPF and retirement planning connect?

Your EPF balance is usually the largest single component of an Indian retirement corpus, so project it with the EPF Calculator and then feed that figure into the current-corpus input of the Retirement Planner. Bear in mind that EPF is not freely accessible before retirement, which matters if you are targeting independence in your forties.
